She was born in Istanbul. After primary school, She entered the ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory Instrument Education Department. She took lessons from “Ney” from Salih Bilgin and Niyazi Sayın, Turkish Music Solfege, and Theology from Erol Sayan and Doğan Dikmen, and Western Music from Ali Eral. In 1996 she entered the Instrument Education Higher Department. She graduated in 2000.
She completed his master’s degree at Haliç University Institute of Social Sciences with a thesis on “A Suggestion on Undergraduate Ney Education in Turkish Music Conservatories.
Since his school years, she gave concerts with various communities, orchestras, and musical associations domestically and abroad (France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium, Austria, Egypt, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Azerbaijan, Switzerland, Japan India, Algeria, Kazakhstan, Oman, Dubai).
In 1996 she started to learn the art of “marbling”, one of the traditional Turkish arts, from Fuat Başar and Tülay Taşlacıoğlu. Between 1998 and 2012, she gave ney lessons and trained many students in Caferağa Madrasa, which is affiliated to the Foundation for the Service of Turkish Culture.
Composed by her composer Fazıl Say and his soloist Aykut Köselerli on the percussion of Burcu Karadağ and Hakan Güngör, the CD, which was made with Borusan Philharmonic Orchestra, won the ECHO classic jury special award, which is the most prestigious award in Europe.
In 2004, she started to work as a ney lecturer at TC Haliç University Turkish Music Conservatory. She worked with many important musicians such as Fazıl Say, Tuluğ Tirpan, Sertab Erener, Trilok Gurtu, Martin Grubinger, Rudiger Oppermann, Angelika Akbar, İhsan Özgen, Önder Focan, and Okay Temiz. Between 2005 and 2007, she worked in Cemal Reşit Rey Turkish Music Ensemble.
In March 2012, she performed as a soloist in the world premiere of Hezarfen Ney Concerto composed by Fazıl Say in Mannheim, Germany. In 2012, India has represented Turkey in the international flute festival in New Delhi.
In 2013, the album “NEYZEN”, which is the first album released by a female ney performer, was published, consisting of outstanding works of classical Turkish music. At the same time, Fazıl Say’s Hezarfen Ney Concerto and Istanbul Symphony are published on CD and DVD.
In 2013, she published her book titled “NEY TRAINING IN MEŞK” about Pan education.
Burcu Karadağ released the album ‘Ney in Ethno Jazz’, combining the traditional Anatolian melodies and jazz approach, which she brought to life again with her breath, in March 2019 with the label ‘Y Kültür Sanat’. The first product of the project belonging to Montenegro, ‘Ney In Ethno Jazz’; It brings deep-rooted melodies from different parts of Anatolia to modern jazz tunes. The artist continues to work as a Ney lecturer at Haliç University, new works in various music groups, and with many artists and marbling with her teacher Ayla Makas.
